The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) says that about a million people have fled Cabo Delgado in the last five years as a result of the violence that has plagued that province since 2017. In a statement, quoted by AIM, the institution’s spokesman, Matthew Saltmarsh, says that “this week, five years have passed since extreme violence broke out in Cabo Delgado province, in northern Mozambique, forcing almost one million people to flee during this period. According to the source, the conflict has not abated and thousands of families are still forced to leave their homes because of attacks by non-state armed groups. “UNHCR calls for an end to the violence and asks the international community to provide sustainable support to reduce the suffering of the displaced population and local host communities in Northern Mozambique”, says Saltmarsh.Read more…Source:Jornal Notícias
